Searching for the living among the Dead? Luke 24:1-12

looking for the living

Hello friends! It’s been long.  It is RESURRECTION time! I am sorry for the three Month stall. What was stalling me you may ask? A mild storm of Life. Perhaps the storm has passed and now I can dedicate more time to Dining with the Master. Such hope fills my heart!

Let me tell you that I do recognize my error. This time should have been priority all along despite the circumstances disrupting my life. May I share with you that yes I have dined with the Master often but not enough. I have been Spiritually hungry and  deprived to the point that I have been feeling down. I had not realized the level of immaturity I possess untill I was made aware that I have been looking for the living among the dead.

Mary Magdalene, Joanna and Mary the mother of James plus some other nameless women were in such place, except for they were expecting to find the dead among the dead. Nothing wrong with that right? They had seen Jesus go through a horrible death and were not expecting to find Him any other place but buried behind the large stone.

After the traumatic events, they had rested on the Sabbath and being the first day of the week, they were prepared to anoint the Lord’s body for good with the spices they had prepared. They had it all planned. They came together early in the morning, ready to mourn over what was left of their hopes, their dreams and the goodness that had visited for a time, but had come to a despicable end.

As they entered the tomb, they were perplexed to find it empty! Not only was He dead, but who had taken His body? Where were they hiding Him? Have you ever felt like everything sinks to the bottom of your stomach? A moment of stillness and darkness but the kind that is heavy on your soul? This kind leaves you numb but has your head spinning. I bet this is the way they felt.

To their surprise, they got the news that they were looking in the wrong place for the living is not found among the dead. “HE HAS RISEN!” the angel said. That is what it was! They did not get it when The Lord told them about the resurrection! He said He would raise from the dead! He said He would come back again at the end of times!

Likewise, the rest of the disciples did not believe the good news the women brought to them on that day. The news that He indeed had risen! They thought it was nonsense. None of them had really understood or believed what Jesus had said about the death and resurrection of His body.

We do not get it either! we don’t understand the meaning of the resurrection and we often ignore that He is coming back. I am guilty of such and unless I am reminded by keeping my focus on Jesus, I keep looking for the living among the dead. Gosh, I am often found dead among the dead and struggling to find living to pull me up from my tomb.

Romans 8:11 says:  “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, He will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you” The question is are we bearers of that Spirit? As we dine in God’s word and develop a relationship with Him, we become new creatures.  There is a RESURRECTION to our dead bodies!

Jesus said in Mathew 7 that we would be known by our fruits.  What fruits? The main one being the fruit of love. Galatians 5:22-23 says: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

We do have the promise in Philippians 1:6 that He who began a good work in us will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. I don’t know about you but this gives me comfort!

My friend, If you are searching for Jesus, make sure that you are looking in the right places. Seek Him through His word; which is the bible, and talk to Him in prayer. Keep your focus on Him who is the picture perfect of the living. When practicing such, you will be able to see fruit or lack of in yourself or others and perhaps not get disappointed at those of us that claim to have found life but we are still resting quiet steadily in our tombs.
