The agent for growth! Luke 13:18-21

That my friends is a picture of the mustard seed. If you notice, it comes in different colors and it has been compared by Jesus to the Kingdom of God! Why? Jesus  said  in Mark 1:15“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”  My guess is that in order to understand this seed’s significance, we have to understand what the Kingdom of God means.

That is Precisely the reason why He gave us this scripture. Jesus came to give us life and life abundantly as stated in John 10:10. Often, when we think about the Kingdom of God, we think of it as Heaven or life after the present. A place up in the clouds far above space. We do believe, and the bible tells us there is such place, but we don’t have to live there to experience its citizen’s privileges. The kingdom of God is here. Jesus came to let us enter into His Kingdom!

So how does the mustard seed that grew into the gardener’s garden demonstrates the Kingdom of God? God’s kingdom is the state of new growth. Growth that comes from the seed that is Jesus when he is in our hearts! The word of God in us! When we have a relationship with Christ and our Heavenly Father through Christ, there is a tremendous growth, a balance that only comes by remaining in Him. This change, or growth not only affect us but those around us. Those who through our witness, and through our walk because of His presence in us, are able to find help, sustenance hope and life!

He also compared the Kingdom of God to Leaven. He said in verses 20-21 “To what should I compare the Kingdom of God? It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three pecks of flour until it was all leaven!”

What does leaven do to bread? it multiplies! It makes the least, the most. As the mustard seed grew into a tree that provided, so did the leaven grew into bread that fed many and sustained. it provides nourishment! These two examples demonstrate provision for our earthly needs in comparison with God’s Kingdom and it’s provisions for our spiritual needs.

Did you notice that Jesus used a woman as a worker for the kingdom of God? As previously demonstrated by Him, He has no preference for who is to share the Gospel! It is true we have different gifts and strengths but they are all to be used for God’s glory!

Is there a significance in the leaven being distributed in three pecks of flour? In Jesus’s time, peck was the unit measurement for dry goods. Could it mean how The Kingdom of Heaven comes from the unity of the Father, Son and the Holly Spirit? Sustenance, life and our purposes are found in this unity? I am not sure but I think this is food for thought.

Have you become part of God’s kingdom? No one is too small that The Lord would not use to build His Kingdom! As you accept Jesus into your heart and as you make Him your Lord and Savior, be prepared to see who you really are and what He intends to do with you! Be prepare to live the life that is uniquely yours and which is only found when you find The Master!
